Mark R Isfeld Secondary School
The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) of Mark R. Isfeld Secondary is hosting an information night for the community that will cover a wide range of topics around substance use including: early warning signs, the facts behind addiction, how substance use affects teenage brain development, fentanyl and the opioid crisis, legalization of marijuana, rehabilitation support, and other topics.
Most importantly, it's an opportunity for the community to learn and become more aware of substance use in our society and how to support those affected by it.
The evening will include a presentation by John and Jennifer Hedican who will tell the story of the loss of their son Ryan, a Mark R. Isfeld graduate, to fentanyl poisoning. Additionally, the evening highlights a number of speakers covering a range of expertise in substance use, mental health, and addiction medicine:
The evening will conclude with a question and answer period between the audience and the speakers. All are welcome to attend.
The Huband PAC hosts a presentation by Tamara Strijack is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who lives and works on Vancouver Island. She has worked with children and adolescents in various roles over the last twenty years.
Comox Valley District Parents Advisory Council (DPAC) is a collective voice of School District
#71 parents and guardians.
Formally, DPAC is comprised of up to two representatives from each Comox Valley SD71 school PAC. DPAC council delegates are elected, appointed or otherwise selected by their PAC.
The DPAC is also governed by an elected board of directors comprised of a chair, vice-chair, secretary, and treasurer.
Any parent or guardian with a child registered in SD71 is a member at large of the DPAC and is welcome to attend and participate in DPAC meetings.
